It is shaping up to be a test of the current federal government.. will they hit the gas industry ( and other multinationals ) with a windfall tax.. Given that Albo has just finished burning a million ltrs of avgas ( maybe an exaggeration ) flitting around cap in hand trying to shore up fuel supplies.. it makes me wonder if we will not get the ” Its not in the national interest to increase costs on gas suppliers ” rhetoric..truth is it is never a good time to broach the subject, and indeed the extractive industries have mounted a TV campaign telling us how they pay squillions.. that seems to be at odds with what the ATO is saying.. maybe they are including backhanders to their political masters in their rubbery figures.
How many time have you seen a politician retire, take a taxpayer golden handshake and appear the next day as a board member on a multinational.. surely given the generous pensions the politicians have voted themselves working at all is not necessary.. but it does leave one to ponder did this all take place after leaving office, or was it something that was organised prior.. you scratch mine I will scratch yours..
I am still at a loss as to where Albos stash of personal cash comes from.. has anybody ever done any digging in his backyard.. Raised in Government housing by a sole parent.. he started with not a lot, but somewhere between then and now where he has his 3 Million holiday home and a slew of rental properties in Sydney, he got rich.. and given that as far as I can tell all he ever did was to work within the union movement.. they must have been very generous with their salary packages.
Anyway I will be watching with bated breath as the government decide whether or not to give their mates a get out of jail free card.. much like their Liberal buddies have in the past.. it is a test.
